THE HEART OF PRIME TIME
Lou Kreitzman
|
| |
|
Lou’s family has been knee-deep in the meat business for three generations.
In the 1930’s, his grandfather Milton found much needed work at a meat wholesaler
in the Fort Greene Market, Brooklyn, New York.
Lou’s father, Manny, a Golden Gloves competitor, lugged steers on his back in the
same Brooklyn Market, giving up a precious college scholarship in pharmacy to support
his mother and sister.
After many grueling years, Milton, Manny and other family members took a life changing
leap. Pooling their resources they began a small wholesale meat business on Long Island.
It was a risk that stretched the family and tested their resolve, but in time they
prevailed and established a foothold in a demanding industry.
By 1959, at age 11, Lou had become a small but familiar apprentice in the family meat
cooler. His good “meat instincts” surprised no one. Meat was in his genes. Weekends,
holidays, summers, college breaks, Lou worked the line, learned from the old guard,
developed invaluable industry experience and, most importantly, developed a passion
for high quality-meat.
In 1974, Lou graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Rhode Island Business
School, was honored as a member of Who’s Who in American Colleges and served as teammate
and Captain of URI’s champion soccer team. He enrolled in Georgetown Law School to pursue
a career in litigation. But Manny fell seriously ill. Lou scraped his law plans and
joined the family business.
Few young men enter a career with the life learning Lou possessed. Fluent in business
practices and the wholesale meat industry, he excelled in purchasing, sales, marketing
and distribution. He nurtured longtime relationships and established direct ties to new
customers. The family business blossomed, increasing sales in previously untapped
markets.
In 1996, Lou bought Prime Time Butcher in Woodbury, NY, an independent purveyor of
prime beef that had been a community fixture for over three decades.
Lou’s goal for Prime Time was singular…take an excellent but limited butcher shop
from good too the very, very best. He developed relationships with the finest
suppliers in the United States, created menus of oven-ready and prepared foods…
mixing traditional foods with haute cuisine. Indeed, what is most striking about
Prime Time Butcher today is the juxtaposition of an old style neighborhood butcher
store with the shop’s innovative food style.
Prime Time Butcher has been recognized numerous times for its superb meats, homemade
dishes and outstanding personal service. But Prime Time is also the personification
of Lou Kreitzman...a man who honors tradition, demands the highest quality, and most
of all, is passionate about his customers and his company.

Josh Kreitzman

|
Josh graduated in 2000 from the Roy H. Park School of Communications, at Ithaca College.
An award-winning media major, Josh has exceptional talents in image, technology and marketing.
ESPN, a worldwide leader in sports entertainment, hired Josh upon his graduation. He helped
produce ESPN’s college football coverage before joining an independent film company as an Assistant
Producer.
Meanwhile, Prime Time Butcher was discovering new ways to expand its neighborhood butcher shop services.
Josh recognized an outstanding opportunity to combine his media experience with his family legacy.
He joined the company (and his dad) in 2003, making him the fourth generation in our family to choose
a career in the meat industry.
Lou and Josh are a dynamic duo. Their shared traditional values and entrepreneurial
spirits complement one another. Their individual strengths drive them to succeed in
their daily work and make meaningful choices for the future.
Like Lou, Josh “lived” the meat industry since he was a young boy.
He too experienced that special apprenticeship that fires a passion and deepens
a commitment to a vocation as did his father.
Josh has taken the leading role in creating PrimeTimeButcher.com. His goal is to
bring the extraordinary quality of our neighborhood butcher shops online….integrating
it on the web for all to experience and enjoy. He also takes great pride in locating
specialty products, creating new recipes, developing marketing strategies and
instituting state-of-art technologies that keep Prime Time Bucher at the pinnacle
of excellence.
